K-Dub Takes the State Title!!

Kevin Willis is the 2006 Texas States Intermediate Champion!! After a VERY impressive first round, Kevin led the event wire to wire to take the victory this afternoon!

Way to Go K-Dub!!!

Kevin was on. I was on top card with him after the first round and there was no stopping him. 2nd place did give him a run for the money on the last round but couldn't make the putt to tie it up. Great competition, cool players, beautiful weather, great staff and organization of the tourney all contributed to best time I have ever had at a tournament. Not to mention being able to follow shultz and feldman, mccoy and hattfield. these guys played great and mccoy and hattfield made comebacks the third round. they were playing on the 2nd card and mccoy came back to tie for second with hattfield taking third. Matt Orum, a youngun from Georgia gave shultz a run for the money but not being able to make the 30 foot put for the tie on the last hole. (shultz went ob twice on the dragon the last hole leaving himself open for the tie or defeat) the tension was in the air and the pressure to great for the young Orum and he missed the putt to send it to playoff holes. youn Ian Hovey made an impressive run in the advanced division and is one to keep an eye on. (hes expected to move up to pro after am worlds this year) To cap it all off, the fly mart and beer garden was off the hook and the tourney was an awsome success. I can't wait untill next year Flynhigh disc golf was the title sponsor and really made alot happen. If you get the chance go on his site and purchase any of you discs through him. he is a major supporter of dg in texas and we should support those that support us. If you get a chance to talk to him, thank him for his support he really does alot. A big thanks to hfds also they were the backbone of the event.

Unfortunatly I had to give a " I got eatin by the Dragon Monster at Texas States" mini to everyone who played the hole from the GT :(

Tim and I got last cash in ADV doubles...How did you and Mull do in INT, i never checked???

We tied for second. Thats all Im sayin.

As for my play, I was in second after the first round and stunk it up on the willy to drop to 12th. I made up a few spots and finished in 10th after the final 27. I was playing good even though my score did not portray it, but 5 errant shots gave me 2 circle 6s and I had 3 5s that should have been 3 or 4s on the willy, then on the final 27 I doinked 7 putts off the basket that were within 20'. I am dissappointed with my play, I should have been in the top 5 had I been able to play like I have been playing the last few weeks.

Speech ??? Thanks for the congrats, everybody. I was fortunate to get the win & glad I got to make the touney in the first place(thanks, Rufus). I've met a lot of good friends & reunited with some old ones through disc golf. Now, when is that next tourney, so I can be brought back to reality ???
