I'll be representing in the Am division. I think DG said he was dropping down for this one, so I hope we battle it out on the Power nine. In which my Epic will wow the crowd. 8-)

You need anything else to throw for the tournament? I don't have anything else I'm willing to give up, but I got lots of stuff you could borrow. What do you have for a headwind distance driver if the situation arises? I got 2 TeeRexes, a 169 and a 173. The 173 is a first run that Tim and Mindy gave me though, so make sure you don't lose it if you wanna borrow it. I got a 178 Z wasp if you need a hyzering midrange, a couple of Rhynos, a 175 Star Wraith, a 176 Illusion, and a stack of original mold Beasts weighing from 165 to 175.

Since it's all fun and games ;) let me give you a little bit of friendly advice - you've got tremendous power in your sidearm. IF you can learn to throw it correctly it will be almost as long as your backhand. You muscle the disc out there with a sloppy release, and that's why you can turn over a disc like a monster - the flutter. Flutter the release and even a Speed Demon will turn over, but severely overstable discs are good at masking disc flutter, so for it to show up when you were throwing Dustin's green MonsterX, it's very severe flutter. Go out and practice sidearming your putter, it will show the flutter the most. When you get the flutter out of it, move up to a flippy driver, and you should be able to throw a big gentle hyzer or hyzer flip with it. If you can get the flutter out of a putter sidearm, you can throw anything, and with the distance you are muscling that floppy shit out to right now, you'll be 75-100 foot further and on line with a clean release.

Those epics are wild. There is one guy here that puts his pin high on a 465 ft hole pretty regularly, and is irritatingly accurate with it. Once, i witnessed him drive it for a 15 ft birdie shot on #10 Victoria(500 feet). He has started getting a lingering bursitis problem, though...as have I. Good luck everyone, I will be working all weekend.

Well guys, I wish ya'll all the best of luck. I think I've played SV the most recently of us, and I can say it's cleaned up into a very nice little course from what I've heard it was like before. Tough as nails though for sure. Great topography and fantastic use of the available land.

Neal hasn't played it yet... or he has today, lol, and made the comment yesterday about it being mostly open. LMMFAO! Where he got that idea, I dunno... maybe he's thinking the whole thing is set on a golf course. RUDE awakening, lol.

Neil shot +7 and +8 and missed cash in Advance.

I shot +6 and +10 for a 3 way tie for 1'st in Intermediate. Got 2'nd in playoff.

James shot +12 and +9 to tie for 5'th in Intermediate and last cash.

I'm not sure what Jarrod shot but I think he missed cash.

The Dirty Champ shot +11 and +5 to bring home 3'rd in Advanced Masters.

Scores and ratings arent up yet on the PDGA board. I'll link it later.

So how was the course? Was it pretty clean? It was the middle of the summer when I went, and it was pretty nice - fairways were taken care of, minimal tree debris laying around... but there were some bad ASS briars in the rough in spots. What sort of layout was it for the tourney? Mixture of the finesse and power 9 holes, or new holes altogether combining the woods and golf course?

There is only one winner per division, right?

Fuzzy, you da man! Oh, and no doubt my golf sucks. Oh, by the way...has anyone shot better than -8 from shorts and +1 from longs. Please let me know!

If I were a bag kicker and a mini thrower then these tournaments wouldn't be fun. If I'm not mistaken I'm playing at or above my rating also. (which isn't saying much)

Will, I know you just didn't play the "Christian" card on me!? My sins are many! I have a Savior who forgives and my place in heaven is secure. I'd be happy to discuss where you will spend eternity.

P.S. I won't be reading any more of this thread. Have a blessed day.

If you think it's more important to go to church, eat crackers, drink grape juice, and watch people do their best to imitate epileptic seizures than it is to actually FOLLOW Christ's teachings, then that's your thing. You're in the majority with that idea. I know very few Christians who are actually "christian" at all. I know more Buddhists and Wiccans who are much more "christian" in their actions and way of living.

By all means, discuss with the GROUP where I'm going to be spending eternity. Once again, skirt the issue by bringing what you feel are someone ELSE'S problems into the limelight. I'm a Cynic Neal... not in the contemporary sense, it's grown to mean pesimist, rather in the classic sense - a follower of Diogenes. I expect the worst(especially in people) but all the while I hope to be surprised. You've really never surprised me... not in a good way at least. I'm really still trying to figure out HOW to deal with you, because avoidance is just extremely unlikely, not to mention cowardly. Because, and God knows why, for some damn reason, I'd like to see you become a better person, really I would.

You want to spend all your days at Church, that's fine. Churches are buildings for socializing. God doesn't care about buildings, be they stone, brick, wood, sheet metal, etc. He is not Ares or Hera, needful of alters and shrines. His true house is your heart... and how do you keep it for him? To truly be Christian, it is not a matter of going to church, paying tithes, eating crackers and drinking wine or grape juice, it is a matter of evaluating your actions on a daily basis in an honest effort to become more like Christ. "WWJD?" may have been made into nothing more than a commercial fad to sell rubber bracelets, but the question is still valid. To be Christian, all you need do is ACT right, treat people with respect, as if they are your family, wether they are or not. That's it. Or you can run and hide behind the forgiveness of God, and use that as an enabler to embrace a laissez faire type attitude toward life, as most everyone does. He'll no doubt forgive you for that as well.

But for me, all that matters is this - that I try my best to be as good a person as I can, giving no thought toward His forgiveness as a safety net. In life, it's the forgiveness of one another that you have to worry about, and people aren't as lenient. We're not perfect, remember? Sure, your place in heaven is secured... everyone's is. But how will you get there? All roads lead to the end, but are all of them worth traveling?

I myself feel, and also tell other Buddhists that the question of Nirvana will come later. There is not much hurry. If in day to day life you lead a good life, honesty, with love, with compassion, with less selfishness, then automatically it will lead to Nirvana.

Surely, you're entitled to your opinion, but never thought they sounded anything close to Sonic Youth, myself. Although, Kim Gordon could possibly be mistaken for Kurt Cobain.

dg
10-17-2006, 12:38 PM
Although their other stuff was OK, Nirvana's unplugged CD was one of the best CD's ever! It was also a tribute to the deceased Kurt Kobain, or at least his tribute to himself. I think he picked the songs intentionally and set the stage like a funeral visitation because he knew it was his funeral visitation.

Of course Nirvana was a Sonic Youth ripoff band, Cobain said as much in a lot of early interviews. Ever watch "The Year Punk Broke"? Listen to Creme Brulee at the end of SY's album Dirty, and tell me Kobain never copied that, right down to Kim Gordon's breathy vocals. Add in a little distortion for the chorus/refrain and you have "milk It" from In Utero. Cobain wanted so much to sound like Sonic Youth that it killed him(not literally, no pun intended) - he had the tones, the nack for writing catchy hooks into songs, the purposefully pretentious lyrics, etc. But with nobody in Nirvana being a musical genius by ANY stretch of the imagination, he couldn't handle the onorthodox time signatures, weaving the feedback and funky noises from all the instruments together into melody, just the whole making music FROM noise thing. He did noise with the best, but it never transcended noise.

All Cobain did was take Husker Du, the Pixies, and Sonic Youth, and put them all together in a blender, sifting out some of the more interesting pulp. He spent more time onstage TRYING his heart out to recreate the things that sonic youth achieved in songs like "Scooter & Jinx" and their other feedback laden masterpieces, than he did doing his own songs. And everytime he couldn't get it to work, not being a musical genius and all, he shifted into Pete Townshend mode and destroyed shit, made it look like a big The Who tribute.

First, Cobain said a lot of things about the origin of their sound. I can't tell you how many bands he said they ripped off.
Second, Nirvana is better than Sonic Youth (which I have seen and own many of their albums- yes, vinyl), Husker Du (seen Bob Mould only- heard all of their shit), and the Pixies (unfortunatley heard all of their shit - wifey has all of their cds- F. Black licks balls!) put together.
Saying Nirvana is a Sonic Youth rip off band, is like saying Shakespeare was a rip off of Marlowe
Yes, Bleach is their best album.

I was with you through all of that except saying Nirvana was better than Sonic Youth, lmao. Goo and Daydream Nation > any Nirvana album. Nirvana did put out a lot of sound for just being a power trio though.

And yes, the Pixies suck. I think that accounts toward part of why Nirvana wasn't as good as sonic youth. When one of the ingredients in your recipe isn't worth a shit, lol, you get a weird strain of flavour throughout that can bring the taste down. ;)

And I will agree with you agreeing with me about Bleach.

Cobain could copy anything he wanted from Sonic Youth and they still sound nothing alike. I agree totally w/Roy that Nirvana>Sonic Youth & not just because they got mainstream for a period of time.I personally liked about everything that Nirvana put out, whether it got way too much airplay or not. Can't say the same about SY.SY made tons of useless stupid noise that hardly translated into anything of substance, however, they are a very good live band...remember, this is just my opinion on the matter. Also, watch a movie on punk rock ?? HAHA, me & Roy were AT the shows every weekend experiencing it live, not in front of a DVD player at home. Good try, though. Also, the PIXIES ??? WTF ???

lol, the Year Punk Broke isn't even about "punk", it's about the beginning of grunge. I don't like the Pixies either, but their influence on Nirvana remains. I can't argue you into liking something, but at the same time you can't argue against the similarity between the two bands. Nirvana DID sound like sonic youth, it was a wholly intentional thing! Nirvana = Sonic Youth on Xanax and Flexeril.
