This is the date. it will be a lonestar qualifier and a pdga sanctioned event. jan 27th. Lets get to work raising some $ to include a players pack. payout is 70% / 30% with sharing a percentage of his 30% with a donation to the club. This includes all sales. He does not do players packs because they pull from entry or the cost of entry goes up. Will, how about a couple of custom dyed discs for ctps? Time will run out quick if we do not get on this now. Any donations to the tourney from 1 buck to 100 bucks goes a long way. Don't be afraid to beg, puppy dog eyes work well on women etc...... do what ya gotta do.

Any suggestions for the discs and/or dye designs? I don't have anything unthrown at the moment, and my spare cash is tied up with christmas. If someone, or the club, could donate a couple of discs to the purpose, I could get right on it, and the sooner I get on it, the longer I have to air the discs out and let them lose the smell of the chemicals I use.

Here's some recent examples of stuff I can do.(clickable thumbnails)
My champion firebird:

my champion cobra:

Got on a bit of a theme. If I can find a champion Viper I'll probably do it too and have a trio.

Are we going to do shirts or towels? I need to know before i send potential sponsors letters so i can describe what type of representation their company or logo will have at the event.
el-jefe
12-13-2006, 12:51 PM
since I would like to use sponsor money for the player pack, the level of sponsorship will determine the exposure we can give. I will be doing a press release about the event and listing the sponsers who helped out. logos will be on the towel or shirt as well as banners. sponsers provide banners.
I'm nominating Cinco de Mayo as the klein stop
Rick said May 5 at Klein would be cool with him. Do you think there will be too many May 5'ers out at the park that day?

That reminds me of the very first time I ever saw a DG basket. I was out at Tyrrell Park for something, I forget what, and we passed by a group of Tejanos having a family reunion or something. Evidently they were running the barbeque pits to absolute maximum capacity, because they'd strung a chicken up in the chains of a pole hole basket, and were trying to get a fire going in the basket itself...

ok ok, we need to stay focused on what we are doing.....P.I. Open! I need someone to head up the tournament commitee. Anyone who wants to be the point man and keep everything organized, as in keeping up with sponsorship that people bring in. Following up on sponsor leads or assigning them to commitee members who can follow up on them. The commitee will come up with some side contests that people can buy into to help raise some money for TPARK as well as maybe a limited edition fundraiser tee to sell. I'd like to see at least 4 people working on this. I can help, but with my schedule, I can't committ myself. I am injured though and probably will not play, so I'm volunteering to help rick and make sure everything on our end plays out the day of the event. Its not a difficult task and all members are asked to lend a hand and if possible find a business sponsor or any individual can sponsor with as little as a dollar (so hit up those family members after christmas dinner, ya know after a little turkey and wine or beer or whatever," come on uncle jack. Its only 10 bucks and its for a good cause." you know that kinda thing. If 5 people pitch in 10 bucks a piece, its 50bucks. great for a ctp or putting contest and that way 100% of the entry to each of these contests go to the club. Maybe you should get all your family to pitch in a little and sponsor an event as a family. Hole 1 ctp sponsored by the tritico family. Be creative, if half the people who will play the event, get their familys to sponsor something, we could really make the event something. Maybe eventually up it to a b or a tier event by adding to the payout.Sponsor $ also goes to the players pack the club will be doing, that will list all the sponsors for the event.

Did you ever get sponsorship packages put together showing what levels of sponsorship and what you get for it?
I can post whatever, or flyer or any other info on the site along with putting sponsors like in a sidebar or whatever.
el-jefe
12-28-2006, 11:28 AM
cool. as for sponsorship, I haven't put anything together. the old standard we did last year, allowed for any sponsorship, 100 bucks and up to have a banner, mentions in players meeting and award ceremony as well as mention in the press release faxed to the news staions and news papers. It was very flexible, we would pretty much do whatever needed to be done to secure some cash.
Sponsers may also sponsor a hole for ctp or distance contest. Anything like gift certs and product went towards a raffle and those sponsors were given mention at the raffle announcement. With being able to add logos to sidebar as well as maybe a tournament flyer page with some graphics and sponsors list would be a great addition. We might want to put in a sponsor page that lists all the sponsorship we have recieved for the events we have done in the past so that it can be used as a reference for potential other sponsorship.
If you are looking to get involved in finding sponsorship, come up with a creative angle, run it past an officer for verification and then run with it. This type of marketing will allow for you to use your personality to your advantage and hopefully get better results than with a single structured program.
Water station sponsors, trash can sponsors, lost and found sponsor. I mean anything you can think of to sell, its for sell. Sell everything from an entrance/parking lot sponsorship to individual hole "sign" sponsor ( we will print up and laminate tee signs for the tournament with their logo on it, 15 bucks per hole sponsored or whatever you think you can get for the sponsorship, verify it though with an officer!)
Always verify with an officer and lets get the idea on a thread so that we don't come up with ideas that will cross over and interfear with someone elses marketing strategy. Sometimes ideas can and will be combined.
The goal is to raise cash and product to make the event set a standard for events through our club.

I am considering doing shirts from our club. If you have any sponsors let me know and get me their art or logo for the shirt. Right now we have only Coburn's and The Blind Factory as paying sponsors. Also, (Fuzzy / Will )anyone who can come up with a PI themed design can e-mail it to me and I will consider it for the design for the shirt.
Let me know you opinion about giving out shirts. Would you rather have a shirt or CTP. CTP is cash but the shirts give our club and local tourney some recognition for as long as people continue to wear the shirt.
should give out discs and shirts for ctps

We can definatley give discs for CTPs but I want everyone to get a shirt if we do it.
sturmgeist
01-07-2007, 02:29 AM
I've got a design about ready if you want to see it. You might want to modify it slightly from the CTP design since it's set up for stenciling on a disc. I'll post my preliminary designs here.
AveSatani
01-08-2007, 08:03 AM
Yes - I do want to see the design. I think shirts is gonna be the thing. For the CTPs, we are going to give discs unless, like Jeff said, someone wants to shell out cash for a specific hole. I would like you to take some of the league discs we have left over and dye them as prize packs.

time is ticking. Just wanted to let club members know that Kevin and the vic club have raised about 2 grand for the vic open from business in victoria. Jims big burger, the local head shop(they sell discs), several restaurants etc... The 2 grand came from about 6 club members just going out and soliciting sponsorship. Just goes to show what a little effort can do. By the way, they raised that cash so far in 2 weeks. They are going to be giving away ipods in the raffle as well as some other cool stuff. Kinda sucks to win a raffle and get some discs youll never throw, that is why they are going hightech with some of the things they are giving away. If you have the time, don't be shy to approach businesses to sponsor.

01-08-2007, 02:40 PM
See the design in the corresponding, aptly titled thread. I'd just remove the CTP symbolfor general use.
For the CTP, the Ice Sidewinder that Neal donated is gonna be dyed with the first of the bottommost 3 designs, probably in a multicolor effect. Do you want the same design, without the CTP logo, for the league discs? Or do you want me to come up with some stuff people would be more psyched to get in a prize pack? I think I may have found that OxyClean gets rid of the smell of the dye too, which would be nice.
For future reference - it MAY be worth our while to pass on custom stamping next time the club orders discs, and just order blank discs and let me dye them. I can calculate out costs, but that would allow us to forego the "minimum order" thing that's necessary for custom stamping, and allow you to get more of a variety of discs... and may be cheaper altogether. Plus, it's a stamp that won't wear off... EVER.
Just something to think about next time ya'll order discs.
sturmgeist
01-08-2007, 02:46 PM
Also, let me know how many of the league discs you want dyed and what you want on them. If you want just cool looking designs, I could do a Norse design on some valkyries, and for firebirds, something like the trans-am logo I did for it. A Tyrannosaurus shouldn't be hard for the T-Rex, but I'd warn against using them, becuase the star plastic is really shitty for dying. For the SL... I dunno, maybe a star pattern? Constellation or something?
AveSatani
01-08-2007, 06:27 PM
Well since we are the only people who give a shit enough to get on the board or post about it. I'm gonna just give you some champion discs (probably 8 - 2 discs for each CTP) and let you run wild. I do think that most people would prefer the non-island designs (i.e. - snake etc.)
The ordering of discs is a learning process. We had a lot of people in the beginning when we started, then participation fell off, and then the order just became impossible to get done as quickly as we would have liked. The Innvoa approval process sucked to say the least and we spent a month just getting a design approved. Long story short, we are just going to order regular non-custom discs in the future.
Any luck with Academy sponsor- Will? Anyone else got any help?
sturmgeist
01-08-2007, 07:17 PM
Yeah did ya'll ever get ANYTHING, substitution or a refund or something, for the damn Rocs and Aviars that they never would approve the full color stamps for? I thought that was complete bullshit - I've seen the artwork on Innova and Discraft full color stamps, and they COULD have printed any of the designs that were sent to them.
I bet you Gateway would have gone out of their way to make things right
Anyway, next time, if the club can allot me a little bit to purchase materials, or go out and get the stuff and bring it to me, I can get about as elaborate with things as you would want, without an approval process or anything. The one-off discs that I'm doing now don't cost anything but the cost of the dye, since I'm doing them one at a time, Jeff Parish at fastsigns is getting their computer guy to cut my design stencils out on a plotter there for free. For a large quantity of them I'd probably need to buy the vinyl necessary for it, but I doubt it would be any significant cost.
And they won't wear off like stamps!
I completely forgot about the Academy thing. I'll get out there and on that the next time I'm heading that way. I haven't been out to play in quite some time.

Will,
We got full color dx rocs and putters with two club logos. We also have some dx teebirds and beasts. We chose Innova because they were willing to donate the gear and that us what most people throw.
I think for the CTPs we should dye the disc with AKs and ARs     :-o :!:

not everyone reads the site and I lost my phone and do not have everyones #. Talk it up. we need eveyone to get busy trying to raise money for the event. Hell get everyone on your next card to throw a couple of bucks for the tournament, every little bit helps to cover some of the costs to promote the event and the club. The only way to fill a tourney every year is to offer the best experience and that means putting forth the effort to raise money to include things in the club raffle, ctps etc... $ is not everything. Product can be gotten also. anything worth anything can be included in the raffle. We could also offer the best shot of the day something special. Even though its a judgement call, a great shot is a great shot and if that shot determines 1st or 5th place, its given more consideration. Anyone gone by TSC? how about novaroskies or academy? gander mtn.? sunrise? whataburger? sonic? american power yoga? buffalo wild wings? game stop? best buy? hell even home depot. all you have to do is secure a donation of cash or gift cert or product in any dollar amount to sponsor the event. Those that give more will get more attention because we will announce the sponsor and what they gave as well as ask everyone to support those places for their support. Anyone talk to Lester about cyberscope as a sponsor? how about where your parents work or uncle? if you don't try you will never get anything accomplished. I hate to cop out because I don't have the time to put into this right now, that is why Im asking for your help. 2 years ago for the klein tourney, wozniak brought in gift certs from cowboy reds and several other restaurant chains as well as some cash that he was able to secure in 2 days. It aint to late to make a difference. And just think, you may win the raffle for that ipod you got best buy to donate!
I hate to say this but"git R done"

I live pretty close, I'll try and hit them up when I have a chance. I'm new to this begging for money thing, so if someone can run down exactly what information we're supposed to give to the businesses that we ask for sponsorship, it'd be a big help. I mean walkathons and stuff have a sheet or sommat that you write the business down on and the amount they donate, etc, and it tends to look legit.

Jeff - I can go pick up the check and banner if you need. I just have never even talked to theguy or gone in his store yet. I'm working on some other sponsor possibilites.
Also, confirm the $ for lester. We will need it for the shirts. I didn't realize (until I checked the pdga website) how many people were there and how many shirts we will need.

Marc is going to print up some towels for the players pack as his sponsorship. He is also going to do a limited run of a cool shirt to add to the ctps and raffle. I don't know what graphics but I suggested a front pocket logo for the 2007 PI classic and on the back, do a throw back graphic, maybe the skeeter eating the deet or something. I don't know what he will come up with, that was just a suggestion. I have some more of the towels left over from last years players pack that we did not print that I am giving to him.
To acquire sponsorship, you are not begging for money, you are selling the promotion of their business and their support for local sports and activities. Their involvement may not bring them immediate business but will give them name recognition that participants will not forget. Also their sponsorship will be in the press releas that will go out 1 week befor the event. Remember, cash, product, gift certs all work for what we need. If you go to a restaurant, say cowboy reds or fat macs and they do not really want to give up cash, suggest a couple of cooked briskets. We can slice em and give away lunch. Like I said its their involvement we are looking for and that can come in many different forms. be creative.

In the case of cash, who collects it, and if check, who is it made out to? Golden Triangle Disc Golf Club? For merchandise, who makes the pickup, etc?
Gift certificates is simple enough.
I've printed out the PDGA listing for last years tourney, and the new page for this year's. It has Rick's # on it, which I'm highlighting in case anyone wants to check out references - should I include any GTDGC info, like Jeff's name and # or anything?

Rain is in the forecast for Saturday so bring an extra pair of socks and rain gear.
Free shirts and towels in the players pack. Free Monster Energy drinks also.

course conditions should be great on 90% of the course. Hole #14 will have a little more water than normal. With the warmer temps, off will be needed for sure. Looks like the locals are not going to have the normally high winds to their advantage. see ya this weekend!

man, yall shoulda seen the pancake James threw on #10 today. crashed the TOP of the pin high tree. i swear had it missed that tree it would have been the longest throw i have ever witnessed...550 feet easy.Even after hitting the tree it was the longest throw i have ever seen on that hole and the longest pancake i have ever seen.

Yes, he m ade the 35 footer for a 2nd shot birdie.
I think my birdie in regulation on hole 5 was much more impressive!!! :-P

* usually if you make your 2nd shot its a birdie unless your 2nd throw is for circle 3. Im not sure I understand what you are trying to say? I personally think my 100 ft. birdie save on old hole 9 during a round of night golf. now that was truely impressive.
PS mines bigger than yours   :-P
*this post is sarcastic lite with a little perversion in order to respond and keep the conversation from turning ugly.

2nd drive I should say. It was much better than the 8 footer he missed for the outright win on 18 and about as impressive as the 60 footer he made for birdie on hole 1 of the playoff!!!

i could care less about the putt....and that drive, no matter if it was his 100th drive, was more impressive then someone birdying hole 5...that happens all the time.

I'm sick, I'm broke, I haven't been able to buy dye, and my damn vinyl source for free stencils has dried up. Sorry to say I won't be able to make it to play OR volunteer tomorrow, which sucks cause the weather has been nice last couple of days and I been jonesin to play the island... but on the upside, I got a gorgeous girl taking care of me, lol, so I may end up having more fun tomorrow than ya'll anyway.

He was throwing with a strong tailwind. ;-)
Was a good birdie for me. About 75% as happy compared to making one on old hole 5 at Klein. Well...maybe 50%. :?

Way to go Ruf dog! 1st pdga tournament win. Conditions were ugly for the first round and as the 2 min warning went out for the 2nd round, the clouds parted and we had dry second round. I'll copy and paste the results as soon as they are up.

if James threw a pancake 500 feet, it had to have been with an Epic, and if he threw the epic that far, it was not likely with a tailwind, they fly farther like that into a headwind. They have no glide, no conventional "disc" aerodynamics - epics fly more like projectiles due to their camming physics and to keep them in the air that long they must have a strong headwind to provide lift, as they have none of their own.

Kick ass.. I don't think I've heard that since the album it's on came out. Their "Slayer Medley" is equally awesome, and the live Tomohawk performance of "God Hates a Coward" was cool to see. Youtube has some cool stuff on it.
Still waiting for a Faith No More reunion...
