damn, jarod takes 1'st in REC and they have a payout skewed to the bottom, he would have won a ton with that many people

that would suck to take 1st and only get maybe 10 bucks more than what you payed for the tourney. looks like the give every body a disc and the winner 2. thats southern nationals for ya.

Novice division should have a flat payout like that. Novice isn't a competitive, but a beginner division and should reward anyone that decides to play in it. In my opinion he was overpayed for winning, everyone should have gotten the same amount across the board.

not competitive huh? Id ask the players in that division if it is competitve or not.
you can do it in a players pack and get your disc, but to win an event that is competitive, whether novice, beginner or whatever should pay out a little more. when I won in waco, my payout was like 110.
oh wait, if you give it out as a players pack, the td dosen't bring in as much cash as if he gives a disc away instead of giving the cash value of the disc and then "selling" the disc to the player. I just think if you win anything you should be rewarded, and that payout was skimpy in my eyes. he should have at least got 60 in payout. but hey, like I said, thats southern nationals for ya. was that a pdga sanctioned event?

Way to go, Jarred!!! The course was mostly open with lots of rolling hills. Highland Park is definately in my top 5 courses; Live Oak, Zboaz, Veterans,
OPEN, PRO MASTER, and ADV played from ORANGE/YELLOW
PRO WOMEN(?), INT MEN, and ADV MASTERS played ORANGE ORANGE
NOVICE and INT WOMEN played BLUE/ORANGE
JUNIOR played BLUE/BLUE
The Novice entry fee was $15. They got either a Champion disc or a Star disc and a mini in their players pack.
Three places deep got nice plaques (trophies). It seems that they "paid out" the top 5 in Novice.
Jarred's 1st place prize was initially a paid entry fee into the next SN event for the Intermediate division. He got bumped up! We went ahead and got a couple of discs instead.
After looking at everyone's 2nd rd. from the Orange tees, it seems that only David Vance and the Intermediate champion beat Jarred on the round. Pretty impressive, I'd say.
Now, about plastic and payout. I can assure you that for Jarred and any other 13 yr. old that this win in that big of a division is a huge confidence builder and I think Jarred has enough plastic, wouldn't you say? :-) He didn't feel the least bit slighted. For anyone who has ever won a tournament you will understand that feeling of coming out on top far outweighs how much plastic you get.
Competition at any level is "competetive". One wants to win. There were no "kids" in the novice division. I'd say they ranged in age from 18-25. Would you like getting whooped by a (forgive me, Jarred) snot-nosed 13 yr. old needing a haircut. I mean we can recognize that some kids have game but we still would like to beat them! The guy who was in 1st place going into the 2nd round whose home course this was, was not at all happy about Jarred's 2nd round. So much in fact that Jarred tells me that the guy was very frustrated, hoping that Jarred would make bad shots and just the opposite happened. Jarred even tells me one time he threw a great shot and the guy threw his hat down and said, "You got it". Now if that ain't competetive I don't know what is. Granted, most of those guys were new to the game and Jarred is a seasoned tournament player. Still in all, this win meant a lot the the little fella.
I think it's important to point out that in any Southern Nationals division it is in my opinion 3 to 5 strokes easier than PDGA events, meaning the calibre of player in our neck of the woods in each respective division is that much stronger of a player.

Having played several events I can tell you that is an accurate assessment. After all, I myself WON and advanced event. That proves it! Your not competetive comment was ignorant!
