Today I announced some pretty exciting news at the League Players party.
What started out with an email and a phone call in August 2003, almost four years later has finally become reality. The Orange County Parks Department has recently purchased 18 Innova DISCatcher® Pro disc golf targets. These will be used to completely renovate the disc golf course in the park.
The project will be done in two phases. The first phase will be installing a temporary/permanent nine hole course in the same area that the current course is located in the park. The second phase will involve clearing some land in the woods either by reclaiming acres of clearing underbrush, or by clearing out throwing lanes for the holes.
Right now in the first phase, we are in the design step of the project to determine the safest location for the nine holes to be installed. The existing course has some decent holes but with the way discs are made with the sharp edges, having a tee area 20 feet from the previous target just isn't the safest thing. Some things will be changing, we are going to try to keep some of the existing holes though because there are some nice ones.
I will be setting up a work day for the park and posting it here on GTDiscGolf.com in the coming weeks. I would like to take the time to thank the Orange County Parks Department for making the commitment to disc golf and we look forward to working with them in the future.
