Gulf Coast Championship Series

Team Disaster Disc Golf Promotions is proud to present the 3rd Annual DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series! This year’s series has grown to include ten events (nine one-day Saturday qualifiers plus the Finale at Tom Bass Park). The Amateur divisions will be PDGA sanctioned B-Tiers and the pro Divisions will be PDGA sanctioned C-Tiers (100% payout). The Klein and Pleasure Island stops will also be Southern National Qualifiers (covered through sponsorship). For each amateur player entered in each of the ten events, Team Disaster and the Sponsors will donate $3 to the series finale, $1 to charity, and cover PDGA fees. Each Amateur will also receive a players pack at each event.

Each DiscGolfStore.com GCCS event will feature two rounds of at least 18 holes with low entry fees, pick your plastic merchandise for amateur cashers and full color framed trophies for the winners of each division. Average amateur payout will be over 115% at the qualifiers and estimated to be over 200% at the Finale. Pro payout will be 100% at the qualifiers and over 100% at the Finale.

New to the series this year is the Points Championship. Top players from each division will win personalized points championship trophies based on their total points from their top four finishes in the qualifiers! See the Question and Answer section for more details.

While anyone may play in the Finale and compete for the regular payout, to compete for the Series Bonus Payout ($3 per player during each qualifier – estimated to be over $2,000 added), you must compete in at least three of the nine qualifying events. Each event will be capped at 90, so sign up early! You may sign up using www.titledisc.com, by mail, or at the event. Gulf Coast Championship Series
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the deal with the Big Money Doubles Series? The Big Money Doubles Series has expanded to include nine total events and two rounds of golf for each event. The Moffitt, MacGregor, Cross Point, Round Rock, Bass and Live Oak GCCS events will have a BMDS event the Sunday following GCCS. The other events (Hitchcock, Klein and Conroe) will be on a Saturday. The 2nd round of each event will feature the fun 6-6-6 (Best Shot, Best Score, Worst Shot) format and the Bass Finale will have added payout like the GCCS does through the qualifiers. Check out TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com for more details.

Q. Do I have to play all nine Qualifiers to play in the Finale? No.

Q. What is the Series Championship Bonus Payout? $3 per player will be applied to the Series Championship Bonus Payout that will be awarded during the B-Tier Finale. The Amateur Bonus payout is donated through Team Disaster and our sponsors. Pro qualifiers will have this fee deducted (along with the PDGA $2 fee and the $1 charity donation) before payout is calculated.

Q. How do I qualify for the Series Championship Bonus Payout? To be eligible, you need to play in at least three of the nine Qualifiers.

Q. If I play less than three of the qualifying events can I still play the finale? Yes, however you will not be eligible for the Series Bonus Payout. You will be eligible for the B-Tier payout.

Q. What is the deal with the Points Championship? The top golfers in each division (at least three per division) will win full color personalized and framed trophies. Points will be awarded at each qualifier within division (250 for 1st, 245 for 2nd, 240 for 3rd, etc.). Your top 4 point totals will be applied to the Points Championship. If you play more than four qualifiers, only your top four scores count (For instance, if you play all nine qualifiers, you will get to drop your lowest FIVE point totals and keep the top four).

Q. How will the tour bonus money be paid? Cash to professionals. Merchandise of your choice to Amateur divisions.

Q. What percentage of the field receives cash or prizes? Open pro - 33% of field, Advanced - 40% of field, Intermediate – 40% of the field, Recreational - 50% of the field.

Q. What percentage of players cash in the B-Tier bonus payout? The same percentage of the field as the B-Tier payout.

Q. Which divisions are available to play? Open Pro, Women’s Open, Advanced, Advanced Master, Women’s Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational and Women’s Recreational.

Q. Can I change divisions from one event to another? Yes, but if you are moving down you have to have a low enough PDGA rating to qualify for the division you are moving to. You can always play in a higher division than your rating.

Q. Can anyone play Pro? Yes, but if you are an amateur you will forfeit your PDGA Amateur status if you accept cash.

Q. How does the optional ace pot work? It is a rolling ace pot. If an ace is not hit, the accumulated money carries over to the next event. If there are no aces at the Finale, a CTP will be thrown with several of the closest throws taking a portion of the cash.

Q. What are the entry fees for each of the Qualifiers? Pro Divisions-$50, Advanced Divisions-$35, Intermediate Divisions-$30, Recreational Divisions-$25.

Q. What is the deal with the Finale? The date will not be set until later in the year. It is anticipated that entry fee’s will be $5 more per division for the Finale. Watch TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com for more details.

Q. What are the payout percentages? In the Amateur divisions we will be paying out approximately 115% in the qualifiers (after PDGA fee). The $3 to the Series Bonus Payout, $1 donation per entry to a local charity and the PDGA fees have been raised through donations from Team Disaster and our generous sponsors. Pro payout will be entry fee minus the $3 Tour Bonus, $1 charity donation and $2 PDGA fee.

Q. Do I have to be a PDGA member to play? No, however a $5 per event fee will be charged to all players that are not PDGA members.

Q. Will I get PDGA points for playing? Yes, all amateurs will receive PDGA B-Tier points and all Pros will receive PDGA C-Tier points.

Q. Will I get a rating for playing in the events? Yes, all divisions will receive a PDGA rating for their performance in each event. You will only receive an official PDGA rating if you are a member. Team Disaster will post estimated ratings for ALL divisions after each event.

Q. How do I enter? As each event will be capped at 90 players, it is recommended that you sign up early. Please fill out the attached form and mail it to: John S. Edwards III, 6014 Sanford, Houston, Texas 77096. If we are not full, you will be allowed to enter on the morning of the event up to 9:00 AM SHARP. You can also enter the event by signing up on www.titledisc.com. We reserve the right to limit the field size at each event depending on course conditions. Keep watching TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com, and the PDGA and HFDS message boards for updates.

Q. How many holes will we play? At least 36.

Q. What if I do not have a PDGA rating? If a player does not have a PDGA rating, the tournament director will help the player determine their division on an individual basis.

Q. What is the deal with the Southern National Qualifier status at the Pleasure Island and Klein qualifiers? The Southern National Tour is similar to the PDGA and is mainly focused in the Louisiana, Alabama and Arkansas States. By making these events Southern National Qualifiers, not only will you become qualified for the Southern National Final, we will also have some competition from across the border. These events are also PDGA events. Beaumont locals have raised all the money necessary to cover the Southern National fees.

4-Klein Big Money Doubles Series Recap

It was a great day for golf and thank you to everyone who came out. The scores came in much higher than expected on the early morning best shot round at Tyrrell. Joe and Bubba tore it up in open though and smoked the course with a 42. Matchu and Doug shot advanced quality golf with a hot round of 48. Oddly enough, eight of the nine advanced teams were in the lead or one stroke out when the dust settled.

During the 2nd round the hot score of 49 was shared by the advanced team of Dustin and Keith and the intermediate team of Tim and JT. Dustin and Keith also impressively went bogey free. The roll of the dice picked holes 7 through 12 for us for worst shot and Tim and JT came out on top over the entire field shooting a one down. The $63 ace pot carries over to the Moffitt BMDS.

Congratulation to all the winning teams! Full results can be found at: http://teamdisasterdiscgolf.com/bmds/04-05/bmds_klein.html

5-Moffitt Poker Night

We will have a big no limit poker tournament at the house Saturday night after the DGCCS ($20 entry fee, no re-buys). We have real clay poker chips and plenty at the house to keep you busy if you get knocked out early. Shoot me an email if you are planning to come and I’ll get directions to you.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the recent minis, the DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series and the Big Money Doubles Series. The next event is two weekends from now, the 2nd DGCCS Qualifier at Klein Park in Beaumont, September 4th. This is a three day weekend, so be sure to reserve the Saturday for golf in Beaumont :) This event is also a Southern National Qualifier, so we should have some competition from across the boarder. The Golden Triangle Disc Golf club has raised all the funds to cover the SN fees, so no worries on payout being smaller :) CYA there!

Moffitt DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series Report

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Moffitt DGCCS. The previous nights rain left the course soggy and we were lucky to have no rain during the first round. Heavy rains came during the lunch break, but after a short delay before the start of the second round, we were lucky and only got some mild sprinkles the rest of the way.

Joe Hague took the open division with a VERY impressive negative 21 on the day (21 hole format) including an ace on hole nine during the first round. Joe’s second round score of 53 from the long/flag set up came out to an estimated rating of 1014! Joe took $175 for first in open and $220 for the ace pot.

After the completion of play, there was a three-way tie in Advanced between Keith Vest,
Mike Magliolo and Tony Hernandez. After an exciting playoff, up and comer, Keith Vest took home first place. Alan Wang won intermediate with two solid rounds of golf over Marty Cooper and Chad Cartwright. The large 18 person recreational division came down to a tie as well with Richard Lewis holding off Dan Showman for the title.

Danny Berry took advanced master and Nicole Cazares won the women’s recreational division. The annual Deatra Edwards/Edith Horrell GCCS showdown began with Edith dropping Deatra by four in the competitive women’s advanced divisions. Thank you to everyone who came out. The next GCCS event will be at Klein Park in Beaumont (about 1:45 from Houston) on September 4th. Hope to see you all there!

DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series Strives for Excellence

This year the TD crew has made many improvements for the player’s enjoyment. More selections are available in payout including tournament fundraising CE Star Fires and Colormax Z discs. We also now have DGCCS hats, shirts and minis. With a new generator in toe, a cool scoreboard for sponsor signs and scores and a generator for the sound system at players meetings and faster score tracking, we hope all of you will come out and give the series a try. Each event is a PDGA B-tier, so you get a players pack just for participating. Berryhill Tamales will also be at the course selling lunch at each event for $5 with part of the proceeds supporting the tournament. More details can be found on course bulletin boards, the last edition of the HFDS newsletter or at TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com.

All of this is possible through the generosity of our sponsors. It is never too late to become a sponsor and there are levels affordable to everyone. For more information, contact John Edwards directly at (832) 279-8084. A huge thank you goes out to the current sponsors!

Well the locals who do not have a club, but have gtdiscgolf.com who runs leagues like they are a club - how about that  I have you listed in the sponsor section as gtdscgolf.com :D

Alan Wang hit this big putt on his first hole of the day and later went on to win the MA2 division. http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02201.jpg

I parked this one but that was about it on the day: http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02204.jpg

Jennifer was a first time DGCCS competitior, but she plans on being at Klein next weekend to take another shot at Deatra and Edith: http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02224.jpg

Deatra just brought home the Advanced Master Women’s world title from AM Worlds. http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02220.jpg

Nez gets some good reach back on #6: http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02218.jpg

Looks like he pulled it a little to the right (nice lay up Nez :)): http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02219.jpg

In one of his few missed deuce opportunities of the day (-21), open winner Joe lays this one up: http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02212.jpg

Nicole was our youngest competitor of the day. We had to call her over from the playground to pick up her prize for first place in the women’s recreational divisions: http://www.hurricanediscgolf.com/pics/dgccs/DSC02239.jpg

I think this tourney shows what kind of course Klein really is.

I thought the scores were much less than expected.

I think we should go out and move Tyrrell's tee's so that its our own little Tom Bass

With two bad azz courses like Klein, and the Island, Tyrrell Bass would fit in nicely here.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the first two DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series events. We had 81 different golfers out of the 94 total entries, so with nine qualifiers this year the Finale should be HUGE. Each event continues to be an AM B-tier with a ten dollar players pack (pick out what ever you want) that has been raised through sponsorships and the raffle.

Jack Books park in Hitchcock (Saturday, September 18) is the next stop and the Brooks crew are getting everything in order. We will be in the pavilion as you drive in just past the lake like we were during the first GCCS. We will also add the three cool holes around the lake again meaning we will play 42 holes on the day (Thanks Brooks Crew!!!). Sign up early on titledisc http://www.titledisc.com/Events/GCCS04_3.php As always current information can always be found at www.TeamDisasterDiscGolf.com Everyone who gets there by 9:00 on the day of the event will get in.

The $185 ace pot from Klein carries over to Brooks, so we expect to be shooting for over $400 in the ace pot. Come on out for what should be a great day of golf! The Klein report, directions to Jack Brooks and the GCCS flier are all included below.

Klein DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series Report

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Klein DGCCS. The course was VERY lucky and remained dry throughout the week even though the area saw off and on rain. It turned out to be a beautiful day and the only rain we saw was during two or three holes during the end of the 2nd round and even then it was barely enough to get your disc wet.

Alex Hughes came in from Austin after an excellent showing at Worlds and took the open division with back to back 47’s including a clutch circle three putt from the creek on hole one during the 2nd round. Alex’s 2nd round came out to an estimated rating of 990. I expect we may see more of Alex at Round Rock and Live Oak.

After the completion of play, there was once again a tie in Advanced division (103). The playoff between local hero “Hollywood” Keith Vest and the unsung hero, Team Disaster web master, Richard Rasch ended with Keith taking his 2nd title in a row (third if you count Big Money Doubles). Keith was heard to be muttering something about wanting a piece of newly crowned Junior World Champion Matt Hall. Will the big match take place at Hitchcock?

After debating on playing Recreational or Intermediate at the start of the day, Doug “Slowmo” Sullivan (107) hit long turbo putt after long turbo putt to take the Intermediate division by two over FOUR golfers that ended tied for 2nd (Dustin Galmor, Rufus Manley, Shawn Aaron and Tim Robinson). There were a lot of “would-a-could-a-should-a’s” going around in that group after the round. Could have it been the karma being volunteers and helping out the tournament staff that pushed Keith, Richard and Doug to the top. Help us out at Hitchcock and find out (BTW – a huge thank you always goes out to everyone who takes the time to stop and help – each and every one of you is appreciated).

Andy Scofield (107) smoked the recreational division by five for his first sanctioned victory with Darin Mull taking 2nd. The Women’s Advanced division was won by Jenn Daigle (137) with Karen Crites coming in 2nd. Thank you to everyone who came out. The next GCCS event will be at Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock, Texas on September 18th. Hope to see you all there!

Directions to Jack Brooks Park, Hitchcock, Texas

From Houston:

-Take 2004 West 3 miles
-Turn right into the park (the entrance tries to sneak up on you)
-Take a right at T in the road and we are in the pavilion just past the lake on the left

Next DiscGolfStore.com GCCS Stop, October 30th

The next stop on the DiscGolfStore.com GCCS is at City Park in Live Oak just outside of San Antonio. For those of you who have never made the trip over to Live Oak, now is the time. The ace pot was not hit at Brooks, so there will be an estimated $750 ace pot available on a great course with MANY ace holes. Attendance should be high as there is a ton of local support and Austin players will make the short trip down as well. The next day we will hold a Big Money Doubles Series as well. This is the weekend after Texas States, so save your pennies so you can make the trip!

LIVE OOOOOOOAK!!!!

Live Oak is coming up this weekend with sanctioned singles on Saturday and the unsanctioned Big Money Doubles Series on Sunday. Early registrations are going great and with the $445 carry over ace pot from the first three DiscGolfStore.com GCCS events, the ace pot should be close to $750 for the day!

For anyone who needs a hotel for the night, the Comfort Inn has rooms ranging from $59 to $69 depending on Triple A membership etc. I am told it is very nice and has a free breakfast and a pool. (Phone # 210 659-5851, 200 Palisades drive, 78148, Directions from I-10 from Houston, take 1604 right/north, go 7 miles and turn right on Palisades and you are there - - the internet maps steer you wrong apparently).

Directions to the course: NE of San Antonio on I-35, take Judson Rd. or Toepperwein exit to Leafy Hollow Dr, which leads into City Park. 1st tee at the end of park road.

Tournament central will be set up in the pavilion near hole 1.

Hope to see you all there!

Hitchcock Report

The last DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series event in Hitchcock went great with 65 players on a pretty day. A huge thank you goes out to the local Brooks players who helped set up the course and coordinated the 3 extra holes. Over the first three events we have had 112 different players and we have not even started the swing over to Victoria, Round Rock and Live Oak.

We have had some confusion with the players packs. Each AM at EVERY event gets a players pack. Please see us during lunch or after the second round to pick it up at each event. These packs are available through the generous donations of our donors and raffle ticket sales.

In the Open division, Alex Huges drove over again from Austin and took the division by one over local pro Michael Ynfante by one shooting a 119. The big story of the day came from the Advanced division where Brian “Boo” Pearson beat not only the Advanced division, but EVERY division with a smoking 115 on the day. The estimated ratings for Boo’s rounds came out to 989 and 991. Matt Hall (121) and Keith Vest (124) took second and third.

In the Advanced Masters division Cecil Larkin (130) came from 4 strokes back to beat Steve Dufrane and Jake Walsdorf by two. DeAtra Edwards (151) won the Advanced Women’s division and Jenn Daigle (170) took the Recreational Women’s division.

Intermediate was won by Marty Cooper (129) by two over Jaymie Perry and James Bailey. Jaymie had the hot round of the day in the division with 61 during the 2nd round but it was not enough to come back for the victory. The large Recreational division was won by Dan Showman (133) by three over Russell Carmichael and five over Steve Bachtel.

Thank you to everyone who came out!

***THE FIRST OF THE YEAR TEAM DISASTER SCHEDULE HAS BEEN FIRMED UP, LOOK AT THE END OF THE EMAIL TO CHECK IT OUT!***

Just a fast reminder about this weekends CrossPoint B-tier (4th leg of the ten event DiscGolfStore.com GCCS). This will be the first tournament on this fun course located in Katy, Texas. There are a ton of local players who have never played a disc golf event before who are going to play, so turnout should be very nice.

Signups will be taken until 9:00 am and we will find a spot for everyone who makes it on time. The players meeting will begin around 9:30 with the round starting shortly after. The weather is also predicted to VERY NICE!

LIVE OAK DISCGOLFSTORE.COM GULF COAST CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES WRAP UP

The Live Oak DiscGolfStore.com Gulf Coast Championship Series drew 64 players on a very pretty day in City Park. A huge thank you goes out to the local Live Oak players who helped out and the City of Live Oak. Particularly Joe M. and Danielle V. Thanks!

15+ GCCS regulars made it out to Live Oak this year. We hope that ya’ll will travel down to Victoria (Dec. 4th) and up to Round Rock (Jan. 15th) to play the series. There are also qualifiers this weekend at Cross Point (Nov 13th), MacGregor (Jan 8th) and Pleasure Island (Feb. 12th). Hit two more to get your three qualifiers in and hit the huge Finale at Bass April 23rd (You don’t have to qualify to play though).

In the large 16 person Open division, Vinnie Miller took home the top prize shooting a 114 and beating Joe Torres by two. Alex Huges could not make it three GCCS wins in a row, but finished strong tied for third with Justin Landers at 117 (Did anyone hear if Justin found his bag?) The tradition of Masters aged pros from Round Rock bringing home the Live Oak GCCS title continues (Where the heck was Chili????)

Mark Vargas kept the Advanced title home this year with a smoking 2nd round (121) by three over Tony Bender. Gary Collier took home third (133). Danielle worked the good karma from volunteering to her 2nd straight Live Oak GCCS title (144) by seven over DeAtra Edwards. Kat Bender took third. Both Kat, DeAtra AND Edith want to get you over here for some more action Danielle. Perhaps Victoria can be the next showdown :) What a day for the VARGAS family.

In the Advanced Masters division Calvin Smith (127) beat the field handily. George Guzman (134) and Richard McWhirter (135) came in 2nd and 3rd. Laura Karshis (167) took the five person Recreational Women’s division by four over Stephine McWhirter (171). Hope the ladies keep coming out as they improve their games. Nice shooting ladies, and huge props to Robbie Cooper and Chris Himing for sponsoring two of the ladies and Danielle for getting many of them involved!

Intermediate was won by Jake Sisson (126) by one over Matt Mclane (127) in a heated battle that came down to the last hole. With six holes left there was a three way tie for 1st. The large Recreational division was won Darin Mull (136) from Houston who decided he needed to get out of town to catch fire and win. David McKibbin took 2nd (131) with Jody Curtis (142) taking third.

Do not forget that the MacGregor stop of the GCCS is coming up FAST on the 2nd weekend in January (1-8-2005). Everyone who gets there by the 9:00 am signup deadline will have a spot in the field. If you know you are going to make it, please take the time to sign up early at titledisc (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/GCCS04_7.php) or by mailing a check in. (John Edwards, 6014 Sanford, Houston, Texas 77096). Also, remember the Round Rock stop is the next weekend (January 15th).

There is a major change with the PDGA format for 2005. ***PROS can now play AMATEUR*** – now if you are a pro (accepted cash before) rated below 955 you know have the option of playing in the amateur divisions where your rating places you. This is particularly positive for the age protected divisions and the pro female divisions. Now an 895 rated Grandmaster can play MA2 or MM1 where his skills currently place him. It should make the divisions even MORE fun and competitive. Be sure to encourage some of the folks this effects to come try it out in the New Year.

Below you will find reports on CrossPoint and Wimberley as well as the suspended BMDS. There is also a full list of next years Team Disaster events.

***WEMBERTORIA????***

After hosting over 40 disc golf events in the past few years, the December 4th, 2004 GCCS will be one to remember for Team Disaster. The Victoria area had some major flooding in the weeks before the event. With one week to go, the park took another damaging blow. The ENTIRE park was under water just seven days before the event.

With very short notice, we moved the event to Circle R. A huge thank you goes out to Mr. Houck and the staff for accommodating us on such short notice. Only a couple of people could not make the trip that had pre-registered and I think we got the message to everyone else. We ended up having a great turnout on a BEAUTIFUL day.

In the open division Justin Landers brought the title home shooting a 110 on the day. James McCaine finished 2nd two strokes back with Alex Huges in third three strokes back. Chris Ware and Steve Hemmeline also cashed. In Men’s Advanced Matt Hall won by nine strokes shooting 111 on the day (2nd best score of ANYONE). Chris Rogers took 2nd with Matt Schion finishing third.

Robbie Cooper won his first sanctioned event over a large Intermediate field shooting 126 on the day. John Frost took 2nd one stroke back with Louis Hall, Andy Scofield and Jake Sisson finishing two strokes out in third. Eric Ingelbritson (131) won the Recreational division by six over Jody Curtis and seven over David Horrell.

Edith Horrell won the Women’s Advanced division on the last hole over De’Atra Edwards. Thank you for everyone who came out to Circle R on such short notice!

***CrossPoint Stop***

The CrossPoint stop greeted us with cold weather and a forecast for rain. We were lucky though and the rain held off for both rounds.

The Open division was won by Lee DeForke who shot a tournament best 122 over the 42 holes. Advanced was won by Boo Pearson by two over Chris Garcia and three over Jason Wynne.

Intermediate was won by John Edwards (129) in a three-hole playoff over Doug Sullivan. There was a three way tie for third (131) between Wade Dauner, John Conger, Scott Linthicum and Marty Cooper.

In the Recreational Division Dan Showman won by seven (135) over Joe Miles with Church Conaway coming in third. Thank you to everyone who made it out!

***Big Money Doubles Series***

The remaining Big Money Doubles Series qualifiers have been canceled. Two round, low entry fee, unsanctioned doubles did not take off quite like we had hoped. We will have a couple of one round qualifiers before the Finale on Sunday April 24th so that anyone who wants to qualify will still have a chance. You will only have to play ONE of the qualifiers to qualify for the series bonus cash at the Finale. The Finale will be two rounds and sanctioned.

I just sent the points to Richard, so they should be up on the www.teamdisaster.com web site in the next day or so.

So far the first eight qualifiers have included 260 unique players. 51 players have already qualified with 42 just one qualifier away.

The big news is ANY of the 260+ players that have played an event this season can still qualify for the Finale. Hit the Pleasure Island event (GREAT course) and hit the bonus qualifier at Pecan Park to pick up your three qualifiers (anyone who wants to count PP as a qualifier will just have to pay a small fee, this fee will not be charged to everyone who plays the PPO).

Of course we will have all sorts of cool stuff at the finale for you to play for even if you don’t qualify. Bass in April should be SWEET!

The Pleasure Island GCCS event is coming up this Saturday. If you have never made it out to the Island, it really is worth the trip. This course was originally installed in 1990 and hosted the 1994 and 1995 PDGA worlds. It is one of the most fun courses in Texas in my opinion.

Early sign ups are still being taken at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/GCCS04_9.php). You can also sign up the day of the event as long as you arrive before the 9:00 am cutoff. We have a contingent coming from Louisiana and all the locals have had it on their calendars for months.

Remember, while this is the last qualifier of the year, if you have played an event already you can still qualify for the April Finale and the bonus payout by playing Pleasure Island and the Bonus Qualifier, the www.TeamDisaster.com Pecan Park Open.

There will be a poker game Friday night if anyone would like to play as well.

Let me know if you have any questions about the tournament or poker. Gimp@teamdisasterdiscgolf.com - - 832-279-8084 Directions and reports from Round Rock and MacGregor are listed below. Hope to see you all there!

Round Rock Report

58 players made it out to Round Rock on a Beautiful day for disc golf. A huge thank you to all the locals who helped make it happen and Mr. Cooper for letting us crash at his place. Justin Landers (103) took the Open division by two over Michael Olse. Justin smoked the course the first round shooting an impressive 49. Mr. Olse shot a very hot 52 during the second round but it was just not enough.

Eddie Miller, Steven Hemmeline, Joe Torres, Vinnie Miller, Joel Kelly and Chris Albert rounded out the Open players who cashed in the Team Disaster record 22 player Open division.

In Advanced the temperature rose up enough for Josh Nix (116) to make it out and win his first Advanced tournament by two over Ed Coffey. In Intermediate Ed Granier (121) shot a hot 59 during the 2nd round and won by four over Marcus Lujan. The Recreational division was won by James Wilkins (140) by two over Mike Crump. The two advanced ladies battled in the Recreational division Katie Stockham beating Kat Bender.

MacGregor Report

We almost filled the tournament for the first time at MacGregor with 88 golfers out on a day that just NEVER happens in January. This perfect day MAY make up for the first MacGregor GCCS which was one of the most miserable golf experiences I have ever had. :)

In Open, Michael Olse (116) came back to beat Robby Hendrick by three. Andi Lehmann took the Women’s Open division shooting a 143 on the day. In Advanced Master, Jerry Crites (123) beat Daniel Mueller by four by shooting an impressive first round of 58.

The Men’s Advanced division was won by Matt Hall who once again beat the ENTIRE field of golfers. Matt shot a smoking 114 for the day dropping a 53 during the first round. Richard Rasch took second shooting 122 on the day.

In Intermediate, Marty Cooper (128) won in a playoff over Dustin Galmore. James Bailey shot an impressive 63 to come back for third place from the 3rd card. Edward Schmidt (133) won the 27-person Recreational division by two over Andrew Stallman.

Edith Horrell (143) took the Advanced Women’s division by five over De’Atra Edwards. Patricia Stallman (154) won the Recreational Women’s division by one over Karen Crites. A huge thank you to all ten ladies who came out to play!

Hi Marlin,

We had a scoring issue where someone was listed as in the cash that was not and that added another spot which was a tie. I think you are one of those two and I did not discover that it was a tie until after most every one was gone. Shoot me an email and I will arrange to get something to you.

Sorry for the mistake…

Pdga ratings are stupid. If there would have been a few more pros there with decent ratings scott's 47 would have been closer to a 1000 rated round i'm sure.

It could just be the course though, the low end of scores even for the real good pros will only be around 45 or 46 on any given day i'm sure. But on a good day that's pretty much the lowest really anyone will go locally because there are only so many opportunities to get 2's

Gimp

Not that pdga ratings are no stupid, but I think it would have been a little lower if more high rated players had been there... I think Jim playing so poorly and Joe playing below average actually made ratings a smidge higher...

fuzzy
02-15-2005, 08:50 PM
Me and Matt Schion's rating easily offset JD's bad showing and Joe shooting below average.

To me the ratings seem pretty accurate. According to the ratings the course played roughly 45.3ish....Normally during league play we are at 46 but this weekend was unusual perfect conditions which would account for the course playing slightly easier...imo
